Roshambo - GMTK 2025 jam

This is my entry for the GMTK 2025 jam. The theme was loop and while the theme is not directly integrated in the game, I did use it for inspiration. While I was brainstorming game ideas, I started thinking about games that you play in a loop. Rock Paper Scissors eventually came to mind, since you often play BO3 or similar and ties restart the whole game. After playing way to much Balatro recently I decided that maybe I should try to make a deck-building card game. While I didn't have time to get into the deck building part, the game is playable with a few different card types and stuff.

How to Play

This is a card game based on Rock Raper Scissors. The goal is to defeat the opponent by attacking their "Hero" tile. Each player starts with 3 hearts, each attack deals 1 damage. You choose your hero type at the start of the game (and it can be changed with a card as well).

Each card is either a rock, paper or scissor and to beat another card you must attack with the correct type. Rock crushes scissors, paper covers rock, scissors cut paper, ezpz. The bottom right of the card shows it's hp.

During your turn, you can play cards and attack with them. A card cannot attack during the same turn that it was played (except for Xacto-knife). You can attack the opponents cards or their "Hero" tile, with the correct type of course.

You have a momentum bar to the right. To play a card, you must have enough momentum. Each card has a cost in the top left that shows how much momentum you must spend to play it.

The AI is kind of really stupid, so it might not make the most reasonable plays.
